Haru Shionoya is a Japanese composer and organist residing in France.

After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in piano from Kunitachi College of Music (Tokyo), she settles in France. She obtained a master’s degree in composition theory at the Paris National Conservatory of Music, after attending the Regional Conservatory of Paris. She obtained six prizes in harmony, counterpoint, fugue and form, 20th-21st century harmony, analysis, orchestration. She studied under Cyrille Lehn, Jean-Baptiste Courtois, Thierry Escaich, Claude Ledoux, Jean-Pascal Chaigne, and Marc-André Dalbavie.

After beginning with Jean-François Hatton, she studies organ under François Espinasse and Liesbeth Schlumberger at the Lyon National Conservatory of Music. Additionally, she studies improvisation with Gabriel Marghieri, and harpsichord and basso continuo with Yves Rechsteiner. She is also enrolled in the program for the Certificat d’Aptitude (teaching certification) in composition theory, along with a master’s in pedagogy there.

Furthermore, she studies composition with Jean-Baptiste Robin at the Regional Conservatory of Versailles and piano accompaniment with Denis Comtet at the Municipal Conservatory in Paris, 17th arrondissement.

As composer-in-residence of the inaugural season of the Bordeaux National Opera Academy, she created « Didon et Enée revisited » for 4 singers and 5 instruments (bandoneon, flute, clarinet, violin, cello). The staging was directed by Louise Brun, and the premiere took place at the Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux in February 2023.

As a composer, she premiered « Didon et Enée revisited » at the Grand-Théâtre de l’Opéra National de Bordeaux in 2023. She won the third prize at the first Dieppe International Composition Competition for Wind Quintet, as well as the Grand Prize at the first International Young Audience Composition Competition (Concours de composition Jeune public).
