
Haru Shionoya is a Japanese composer and organist residing in France.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in piano from the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo and continued her studies at the Conservatoire National de Paris, where she earned a master’s degree in theory of composition and six prizes: Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue and Forms, 20th–21st Century Writing, Theoretical and Applied Analysis, and Advanced Orchestration. Her teachers included Cyrille Lehn, Jean-Baptiste Courtois, Thierry Escaich, Claude Ledoux, Jean-Pascal Chaigne, and Marc-André Dalbavie.
She began organ studies with Jean-François Hatton at the Conservatoire of the 17th arrondissement of Paris before joining the Conservatoire National de Lyon, studying under François Espinasse and Liesbeth Schlumberger. There, she also studied improvisation with Gabriel Marghieri, as well as harpsichord and basso continuo with Yves Rechsteiner. In June 2025, she obtained the Certificate of Aptitude in theory of composition
In addition, she studied accompaniment with Denis Comtet at the Conservatoire of the 17th arrondissement of Paris, as well as composition with Jean-Baptiste Robin at the Conservatoire of Versailles Grand Parc, where she earned her DEM with highest honors.
As composer-in-residence of the inaugural season of the Bordeaux National Opera Academy, she created « Didon et Enée revisited » for 4 singers and 5 instruments (bandoneon, flute, clarinet, violin, cello). The staging was directed by Louise Brun, and the premiere took place at the Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux in February 2023.
She was awarded third prize at the first Dieppe International Composition Competition for Wind Quintet, as well as the Grand Prize at the first International Young Audience Composition Competition (Concours de composition Jeune public).
Her works for classical guitar are published by Éditions Habanera. Among them, Cinq miniatures, including Les Sentiers Oubliés, was selected as a required piece for the 2025 Drôme de Guitares International Competition.
As an organist, she performs on prestigious instruments such as those of the Saint-Sernin Basilica in Toulouse, the Auditorium of Lyon, the Saint-Séverin Church in Paris, and Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. In November 2024, she premiered her own organ concerto at Saint-Pothin Church in Lyon, in collaboration with the CNSM de Lyon Orchestra. In August 2025, she served as organist-in-residence for the 59th edition of the La Chaise-Dieu Music Festival. She was awarded the 3rd prize (ex æquo) at the 10th Dudelange International Organ Competition.
